Welcome to the historic Tre Scalini

the Three Steps – one the best-known locations in the Eternal City.
An elegant, yet informal, cafe’-restaurant and ice-cream parlour in Piazza Navona in the heart of Rome, it is famed for its “Tartufo”, a traditional chocolate ice-cream dessert, still prepared today as it was when first created in 1946

The historic location of Piazza Navona’s “La Dolce Vita”

The Tre Scalini is the oldest cafe’-restaurant in Piazza Navona, overlooking Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers. Its retro style ensures it retains the magical atmosphere of the 1950’s when it was one of the favoured haunts of the ‘in-crowd’ celebrated in Fellini’s famous film.

  • The Tartufo

The “Tartufo” – our signature dessert since 1946

Tre Scalini’s speciality is its “Tartufo”, a chocolate ice-cream truffle made entirely from natural ingredients, including 13 different types of Swiss chocolate, according to the original 1946 recipe. Not to be confused with imitations found elsewhere, the authentic “Tartufo” can only be enjoyed in Tre Scalini.
